Feminist strategies in peace and security are crucial to ensure fundamental rights inside and outside the EU. A meaningful commitment from the EU towards a gender-sensitive response is key. Sexual and gender-based violence at EU’s external borders can only be tackled by embracing feminist activism in policy-making – and by voting those politicians who do so.
Europe has made progress towards creating more gender equal societies but does that mean we’re done? No. While I feel lucky to be born in one of the most progressive countries in the world, gender roles and the stereotypes linked to them persist in today’s society.
