Olga Frańczak is a law student in the final year of study at the Law, Administration and Economics department at the University of Wroclaw. Her master’s thesis focuses on the state’s legal obligation to eradicate gender stereotypes. For five years Olga has been involved with a feminist NGO – the Women’s Rights Centre in Wrocław. She spent the last summer as a part of a volunteering programme in Bangalore, India. Olga’s main areas of interest are gender stereotyping, the image of women in media, and violence against women.

What are the roles of Polish women in politics? – Jakie role pełnią kobiety w polskiej polityce? [EN/PL]

Last year’s parliamentary elections introduced a record number of women to the Polish Parliament, as well as the third female Prime Minister. However the Polish political scene still remains dominated by men, and the idea of female politicians as “puppets” is widely talked about.

Zeszłoroczne wybory parlamentarne wprowadziły do polskiego Parlamentu rekordową liczbę kobiet. Trzecia w historii kobieta zajęła stanowisko Premiery. Scena polityczna pozostaje jednak zdominowana przez mężczyzn, a polityczki niejednokrotnie przedstawiane są w debacie publicznej jako ,,marionetki.

Childcare and housework are still almost exlusively taken on by women in Poland. Contrary to popular belief, the problem is very deep-rooted in Polish society. Four factors are the main reasons for this.

W Polsce opieka nad dziećmi i domem wciąż opiera się prawie wyłącznie na kobietach. Wbrew pozorom problem ten jest mocno zakorzeniony w polskim społeczeństwie. Wymienić można cztery główne czynniki wpływające na tę sytuację.
